hey guys ive been having a lock up problem with my tranny, it all started with me keeping my foot in it one day with the converter locked in on a joy ride. After the ride i flicked my lock-up switch in 3rd and nothing happened, i figured my wires had come undone, well i was wrong, there hooked up fine and still no lock-up in od or with od off, i took it to the tranny shop and the guy had it there all week, he said it was the tps, i thought that the lock-up switch by passed that, he told me that witha shaffer shifter it would lock-up and then he told me i could pick it up, well still no lock up, when i flick the switch at makes sort of a hissing noise and rpms drop about 50-100 rpms, its not locking up all the way i guess, also it shifts down and around and hunts even with the switch flicked, its not the selinoid, i checked it for resistance and its got 34 ohms on the 4th gear wire and 33 ohms on the lock-up wire, it still shifts into 4th but just wont lock up all the way

 

sounds like the converter is toast

 

To rule out the TPS remove it and use an OHM meter to test it. As you run the TPS through its full travel at no time should you have a dead spot. This holds true for both sides of it (center pin to left pin and center pin to right pin). Make sure you do this a few times to make sure.

If that isn't it then back to another tranny shop for you.

i tell you what i talked to bill at dtt and i have never had someone help me as much as he did and its not even his transmission, he taught me how to check the selinoid and explained to me the operation of the pcm, the guy at the tranny shop said it was a power modulator and it controls how much power goes to the selinoid, he was wrong, bill said the selinoid has 12v all the time, and the power is never differintiated, its the resistance that messes up on the selinoid, oh well im calling them tuesday and giving them an ear full
