Throttle Sticking

Hey all,
Got a problem... Throttle linkage is sticking. When I accelerate it stays right where I stop and holds that position. I have to open the hood and push the linkage back to idle position.
I sprayed the crap out of the linkages , to no avail. seems to be bound somewhere else.
Any hints would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks in advance

Mine had a recall on the linkage for the same reason. Call a dealer and let them check your vin number. They can tell you if your truck applies.

Had the same problem when I had my 96. It was the throttle cable. When it was replaced the one they took out only had one strand of the cable still holding. The rest of the cable strands had seperated. There is a recall for this problem.

Thanks for the info!!

I found the problem this morning. I took the linkages all apart and removed the bracket from the motor block. The shaft with the spring on it was slightly seezed . I took it apart and was able to clean the shaft up with some emory cloth and PB. Things seem to work great now.
Just trying to decide whether to replace the TPS or try cleaning it again.. didn't have much luck with cleaning it last time, it only helped for about a day then was right back searching for gears again.

Thanks again for the help ....this site rocks!!

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...&highlight=TPS The only way to clean the tps. It also helps to take the wires out of the harness from the pcm to the tps and insulate them by themselves. Goodluck,,,Rick

Be aware that there IS a DC safety recall that applies to your truck regarding the throttle linkage. Most of the problem is usually with the balljoint that connects the linkage to the thottle lever - it seizes. Regardless with what is wrong with your sticky linkage you should take it to the dealer and get it done. They replace the entire throttle linkage with an updated version and because it is a safety recall and not a TSB it is free. I have not heard of anyone having a problem again after the updated linkage was installed.
