Doc: Was this just a test? Glad to hear it fixed itself. Sometimes life is like that dont fuss with it too much and things have a way of fixing themselves. To bad my TC does not seem to take this approach. I even tried putting the truck out in the sun it just didnt help.

This happens to me on a regular basis DR. Evil not that its cold up here or anything. If you look at the inside of the tailgate when its down thats the side you look at. You will notice on the very outside two little slots with a piece of metal slightly recessed take a screwdriver (I use my keys) and slide that piece of metal in the opposite posistion it is in now, this will manually move the latching linkage inside the tailgate. Close gate and it will latch. Hopefully you can understand this.

While you're back there messing with the latches, check the cables, too.
You don't want the tailgate to drop open on a frozen morning only to have the rusted cables break. You may not get the tail gate off easily, but a little gravity and momentum go a long way. About the same long way you walk back to get the dropped tailgate.
