Surging issue
Surging issue
My 5.90 Cummins 2003 Dodge Turbo Diesel is surging and I have not been able to fix the problem. After it surges, it dies, in the middle of the road. It happens in warm and cold whether, on short trips and long trips, different climates and states. I have put additives (Power Service) in it and it helps for awhile, but then the problem returns. Also, changed the primary fuel filter and drained out the water collector. No one seems to know what is wrong, or where to start to fix it. Any suggestions?
Thanks

It is a 2003 quadcab, turbo cummins diesel, 4x4, 2500. There are no error messages from the computer. It was tested. If I appear naive, it is because I'm doing this for my husband who is working!

It sounds like your lift pump is about to die. Thats the little pump that transfers the fuel from the tank to the injector pump. How many mile on the truck? If under 100k it is under warranty. usually wont throw a code but somtimes will. If you turn your key on - off three time then leave it the on after the third time it will show a code if one was set in the odometer. If none were set it will just say done.
