What area are you in?

I can't help you much but do you hear the supply pump running when you turn on the key

Are you close to Midland?

The 1688 tells me you are dead in the water, its pump time, and it had to happen away from home.

0216 has been regarded as the death code, but it is only the code of impending doom. the death codes are 1688/1689. those are where the pump is done, time for replacement.

Good luck with it, at least you're only 450 miles from home.

If you're decent with a wrench you can have the pump swapped out in couple of hours, otherwise maybe hit someone up in the AZ chapter to see if they'll lend a hand.

There is a Perkins Diesel shop in Mesa, PH# 480-964-5273. They're a Bosch certified dealer.

annabelle, where are you getting your code definitions?
1688 is internal fuel injection pump controller failure.... the electronic control module on the VP 44 has died, the only way to fix it is replacement of the VP44
