Still need help, not starting
Hello again. I have replaced the crank positioning sensor on my truck due to the fact that for awhile it was acting weird and losing power and the RPM guage would go to zero. I seen an article on here where someone described my exact problem and that was the cause. I might have waited too long though because the truck finally died all together and had to be towed home. I got the sensor and put it in but it still just cranks and cranks. I was told it could be the IP. Is there a way I can tell if that is the problem now? And if it is......could someone link me to some directions on how to change it? Any info would be greatly appreciated because I hate the thought of sending my truck somewhere to be fixed......seems fix-it shops want to retire off of one job these days. What do you think the odds are that it could be the IP? Is there a particular thing I can do or test to ensure that this is the problem? It was running fine and then started hopping and gagging and then just quit. Any advise would be great. The more info the better at this point.
It could be the IP and LP.
Do you have a fuel pressure gauge in the truck?
Can you hear the LP running after you bump the starter?
Since you have a '99 you can't do the key thing to get your trouble codes, so you need a code reader to see what you have.
You could try cracking open a few injector lines at the injectors, crank it over to see if fuel is getting to the injectors. Be sure to just crack them, HIGH pressure if your IP is working.
I just went through this last month.
Cost me $90 for the LP, put it myself. Fould a local diesel injection service guy that changed the IP for 1450.00, parts, labor and flatbed to his shop. I would have changed it too but it's was getting cold out in my driveway.
