Still no solution? Truck not starting

1999 Dodge Ram 3/4 ton 24 valve. 170,000 miles

Having problems starting. Took it to the Dodge dealer and after three days they could not find anything wrong with it. They thought it was the lift pump(1st one ever) so I went ahead and put one in myself. After that they wanted me to give them $450.00 to drop the fuel tank and see if it was something there. I told them to go...... well you know.
Still the same problems so it was not the lift pump. There is good pressure in the lines under the hood so that is not it.

I took it to my own mechanic to look at the lines and could not find a leak but said he does smell diesel. But not sure what from.

I can pull start and pop the clutch and it runs fine once it is started. Runs great just like it always has once started.

This may be a dumb Q, but have you tested the starter or any other ignition source? I don't mean to insult you by any means, but if you can pull start it, then it sounds to me like it might be electrical. Just a thought.

P.S. You might get more help if you tried this post in the HELP section.

when you try to start it, unplug the electrical connection to the lift pump and see if it will start.

So that eliminates fuel problems...

What does it do, exactly, when starting?
Does it turn over at all?
Starter dead?

Roadranger it turns over great just will not fire. I have been told Fuel injection pump, crank sensor, and whole in a line, you name it.

It did have a 1693 code at the dealer but htey blew it off and acted as if it was nothing.

I had the no start problem only with a warm engine, but if i unplugged the lift pump it would fire fine. The codes and testers would not show anything wrong. Star had dealer unplug lift pump and try as i had and stated it was the vp44. At 121k and $2000 truck was back on road with a new pump, no more problems starting.
