Try turning the wheel and the key at the same time. This just happened to me too. When the wheel is loaded (tension) just turn the steering wheel in that direction at the same time you GENTLY turn the key.

Are you SURE you have the correct key?

Well, we can eliminate the simple stuff!

Are you sure you have the right truck?

Or the right set of keys?

Try another key or try flipping it over. Pull on wheel while turning key. One other thing. Check your vehicle for Body damage. Maybe someone bumped it. Also push the 4x4 shifter into Neutral. This will take the pressure off if it was hit.

I had a GMC truck at work doing the same thing.
Ended up being a worn out key.

Same here, except it was a buddies chevy. He didn't have an airbag, but he had tilt. Made the swap a little tricky. Make sure you disarm the airbags with both batteries off for a half hour. Any auto parts place carries key sets. (it's not the ignition switch). You'll get two new keys with it. You'llneed a steering wheel/harmonic balancer puller to get the wheel off.

Mine will probably do this soon, as my key will come out once it's turned. I kinda like this feature, because I can leave it running, lock the door and take the key. Just hope nobody takes the truck

My truck did the same thing one time - right at the boat launch ramp!

Shut the truck off and I could NOT turn the key after. It had nothing to do with the key or the steering. I removed the entire key assembly and then reinstalled it again - no luck. So I just wiggled the key back and forth for about 20 minutes and it finally worked. It is still working today (about a year and a half later) with no repair. That reminds me I should find out what was wrong!

I know not much help but maybe just try working the key. It happened to me once and never again. I can't explain why.

Hey I had a buddy of mine look at my truck, and he ended up taking the ignition apart and then putting it back together. Seemed to work for me as I have had no problems with it since.
But we all know it is a dodge and there will be something down the road to fix again!!!
Thanks to all who replied even the ones that asked me if I had the right keys or even the right truck.

In one of my past lives I worked as a Locksmith. It sounds like a worn out lock cylinder. Do you have more then two keys on your keyring? The comon Cause for premature wear is the weight of the keyring, with lots of keys pulling in turns stoping and turning. Penduleum (I cant Spell that word) efect will cause rapid wear on the lock.
