Starting Problems
Starting Problems
Won't do anything when trying to start. Nothing, starter doesn't even try to turn over, no clicks, nothing. Batteries are charged. Replaced starter contacts a few months ago. Can't jump start it. It will start by pulling. I'm thinking it may have something to do with the sensor, or whatever, that requires the clutch pedal to be pushed in before starting. Can someone give me some info on this and what I need to look for?
Thanks,

The clutch pedal position switch is mounted on the clutch master cylinder pushrod. To be honest, I bypass the thing so I can start in gear for four wheeling.
Crawl under the dash, and you will find the switch right next to the firewall on the pushrod guide. Follow the wires back to the first plug, unplug it, then build yourself a jumper to connect the wires.

Yep, that was it. The clutch pedal position switch. I disconnected the switch and rigged a temporary jumper. Truck started right up. Since it's my daily driver, I'm going to leave it with this setup until I get the time in a few days to install a toggle switch in the jumper connection. And, yes, I am aware of the danger of starting the truck in gear without the clutch pedal in. So, I will pay close attention to that.
Thanks RCW. Also, thanks to the DTR forum and all of you who post here. Once again I found a ton of info to help in time of need.

I'm thinking I have the same problem with my 99. Over a period of time I have to push harder and harder on the clutch pedal. At one point last winter there was some ice buildup under the pedal so I wrote of the no start to that but now it is happening more and more . Today I had to take the mat out. I looked at the sliding sensor. It appears to be like An LVDT. There is a soft washer or pad at the firewall end that appears to be going flat. I slide the thing up and down the shaft a couple times and it started ok but now it did it again. So maybe I can slip a split rubber washer under it and move it up the shaft a ways. I'll try it this week end.
