Speedometer not working

Hi,
While driving a few weeks ago my speedometer quit working. The brake and ABS lights also came on. After a day or so the check engine light also came on. The speedometer came and went a few times (the lights would clear on the next start-up)but does not work at all now. I have read a number of posts about the "lights on" or speedo not working below 30 mph, but not where the speedo quits completely. I replace the vss on the transmition but no change. Does anyone know for sure if the speedometer uses a signal from the trans or the rear end? Thanks for the help!

Re:Speedometer not working

I had to replace the speed sensor on the rear end on my truck. My speedo wouldn't start working until you got above 25 mph. From what I've heard the VSS on the trans is used only by the trans and nothing else, no speedo. Fixed the ABS and brake lights as well by replacing the rear sensor.

The sensor was something like 20-25 bucks if I remember correctly.

HTH,

Re:Speedometer not working

Awmasparky, your trouble is more than likely, like Drew said the rear wheel speed sensor located in the top of the rear. Prices anywhere from $16.-$30.
Rick

Re:Speedometer not working

That should be the sensor in the rear, as others have said. It is my understanding that it is cheap, because all Dodge vehicles use the same one.

Chris
