small clunk

I have a small clunk in driverside front end. I can feel it in the pedals and steering wheel. It isn't consistent though, only when I am turning left. Sometimes I can hear a small squeak but that isn't consitent either. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I am thinking a u-joint or wheel bearing but not sure.

Sounds like it may be a U-J ... thats how they start, and the sound will come and go...it'll drive ya crazy till you find out for sure!

I know that it could be a u-joint but it just doesn't seem right. The sound isn't really lound like a u-joint typically is. I can feel the cluck when I put on the brakes also. I was thinking that maybe it is the brakes, but that is hard to believe also. Thanks for the thought though. I guess I will have to jack up the front end and start looking.

If it is a u joint it will also clunk when you first apply the brakes.

Check your control arms.

I had a thunk (instead of a clunk ) and it was the driver side top frame mount.
Very loose, could grab it and move it back and forth about 1/4 inch.

What is the difference between a clunk and a thunk?

How bout this:

Drop a rock onto cement and you get the clunk.

Throw the same rock up and bounce it off of a thick ceiling and you get the thunk.
