Shaking Tranny

Hello,
I just recently purchased a 2001 2500 4x4 with an auto-tranny. The problem is the truck shakes when the tranny is locked and I roll on the throttle at low rpm's (1500-1600). My father tells me it's normal but it just doesn't feel right.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

P.S. This is my first post so forgive me if I left something out. ???

Welcome to the site Sea Bass,,,
This is my best guess,,,,,,
I see in your sig that you have a power upgrade. If your tranny is still stock, it could be the torque convertor shuddering under a load. It is not uncommon for these automatic equipped trucks to slip and shudder when horsepower is added. The stock autos need better torque convertors and valve bodies along with higher line pressures to tolerate added power.

Re:Shaking Tranny

Sounds a lot like the dreaded "shudder". It is caused by too much torque. The only two fixes that I know of are A: Keep your foot out of it, or B: Upgrade your tranny. You can look in the links area for tranny vendors to discuss what is going on.

When u say the truck shakes do u mean it sorta vibrates then smooths out when u get into higher rpms? Also does it do this especially when the TC locks up?

Couldn't he also C: Unhook the chip and see if it straightens out or won't it? I have no idea...just a thought.

The reason I asked the question up above was because I know when my TC locks up and its low rpms it shakes a little bit because the motor is bogged down a bit but clears right up within seconds.

Re:Shaking Tranny

It only shakes when the converter is locked and only at low rpm's. It clears up right away. It feels like it's bogging but it pulls hard.

I had this problem on my turck & turns out when I replaced my lift pump it went away, i'm not saying this is your problem but certainly check the pressures!

Re:Shaking Tranny

Thanks for all the great information. I'm going to start with changing the tranny fluid and filter and see if that helps and then go from there.

This has got to be the coolest and most informative site I've ever come across. Thanks again. ;D

Re:Shaking Tranny

If you get anything for your truck get a fuel pressure guage, this can save you alot ot $$$$ in the long run as well as alot of frustration.

Good luck and welcome to the site
