Trailer Tow Mirrors [SHAKING]
Trailer Tow Mirrors [SHAKING]
I have noticed that with my Trailer Tow Mirrors in the extended position (i.e. opened verticle) my passenger side mirror shakes so bad that you can't see what is behind the truck. It does it as soon as the road become the least bit uneven.
If it makes a difference I have had them in this position since new. Maybe that has caused some extra wear. Also, it is only the passenger side mirror that does this. I think the problem is where the main arm meets the truck door. It is almost like the arm is shaking and not the mirror itself.
Does anyone have any thoughts. Defective?

Depending on where it is shaking from, it might just be some loose bolts. If you pull off the door panel, this is pretty easy to check. I believe there are 3 bolts which attach the mirror head to the door frame. Pulling the door panels is easy in our 3rd gen trucks. Just remove the grab handle and several screws and it lifts right up. There aren't any plastic fasters to deal with like the older trucks. Good Luck.
It is not shaking at that point. It is the arm that shakes. I pulled off the little round plastic cap to see if I could increase the tension on the spring. It does not seem to have any adjustment.
Since the drivers side is ok, have you gotten out of the truck and shook them both and noted any differences? If any are noted, thats where I'd start.
I don't think keeping them extended since new would make any difference.

Curious that you have always had them in the vertical mode. Does it vibrate in the horizontal mode?... Also, perhaps the RF wheel is a bit out of balance.
Unless you have a lot of miles on it, it should still be under warranty. I'd let the dealer worry about it. Mine don't shake in the slightest... either side, either position.

You shouldn't have to put up with that... It is NOT typical

My drivers side shakes when in the upright position. I havent checked the passenger side yet, so I cant comment on that side. It almost seems like it is the glass (mirror) itself, but I'm not sure. Kind of annoying.
My passenger side did the shake and shimmy thing. Then I took it to the dealer and they replaced it. Shake gone
Just have the dealer do their job and replace it. Like you said, it will drive you crazy triing to use it when extended
3y36k warranty if yo are not over it. If you are then go to E-bay and see if you can snag a set from there.

I found that out of balance tires can start this problem then the shaking quickly wears things out, I have had then replaced under warrnaty and your truck is still new enough for them to give you a new set, i'd complain about them both see if they come through
Any luck fixing this? My passenger side was replaced under warranty awhile back but still vibrates alot when extended. Like your, my mirror is loose at the arm. I pulled the plastic cap off the bottom of it, but it does not appear there is any way to tighten or adjust it.
I had shaking mirrors before, outside mirrors and rear view mirror. First time it was the front driveshaft, and the second time it was the rear U-joint. Might check them just to be sure. Good luck with the fix. By the way I did notice you have a 2 wheel drive truck.
The service manager at my dealer tried to feed me the same line of bull. I told him I was going to take the truck out on the freeway, videotape the mirror bouncing all over, and then send the video to Chrysler to see if they agreed with his evaluation. They replaced the mirror.
