Running short on time and .......

I'm leaving on a 700 mile trip. I have an Edge EZ in a box and am wondering if I should install it before I leave? I hate "trying" something out without driving around locally some first.

If I get it installed should I set it at "1"? My truck supposedly has 370 injectors (I don't know how to tell for sure) , with 4" exhaust and AFE air intake, EGT, boost and FP gauges. I going empty and looking for ecomony, not power. Thanks.

I have an EDGE Juice w/ Attitude on mine... I love it. Does your box have a pyrometer? If it does, I'd say you're safe. Even if it doesn't just remember that lugging it will cause high EGT's. So get some RPM's when going up a hill. I'd say put it in, keep it off the power settings, and enjoy the mileage. Remember that more power will find your weak links faster. Whatever you decide, good luck and have a safe drive.

370 injectors are for 12 valves. They're originated from marine engines. Just thought you might like to know that, I know how much it sucks buying something that someone else has tinkered with because you don't know for sure what they have done.

As far as your EZ install, I would do it. You've got the pyro so you won't have to worry about being uninformed. I'm sure you'll enjoy the extra kick in the pants that it'll provide. It would probably make the trip more fun anyway I think the EZ provides a bit of a milage boost anyway (I'm a 12 valve guy) so you could experiment on your long drive to see what gets you better milage. Good luck, and have a safe trip!

I would wait, I've had some friends have some software problems when they start messing with the box, and wipe out the ECM on thier truck. User error both times, but better safe than sorry. Not unless you are not leaving for a few hours, and have alternate transportation. In that case, go for it. I'd just hate to see you get stranded.

Oh, I forgot to mention...
If you have the overhead console with the mileage display, don't be fooled into thinking you are getting better mileage at higher settings. Remember that you are fooling the PCM into thinking that the IP isn't pushing as much fuel as it really is. It may say 28 MPG, but you're definately not getting that. My best mileage has been 24 MPG, on level 1, calculated by hand. Again, good luck, and have a safe trip.

Plug it in!

.....mine came out of the box on level "3", and was installed as such - my performance AND mileage have increased, I'm not sure if the levels are capable of giving better or worse mpg improvements over the others....

I installed my Superchip and lugged my 12,000# goose on a 3500 mile round trip - made sure to "get a feel" for it, took it easy, and made sure to bring the programmer "just in case" - I had no problems with the SC. I had thought about driving around locally first, but time didn't allow and I wanted the benefit of the added HP on the trip.
