Currency Exchange - Short Time Frame

I am going to Niagara Falls this Friday, and need to change over some currency from USD to CAD. Can any of you DTR members recommend a good place to do exchanges that will not charge absurd fees? I am trying to find a few known good ones to call before spending all afternoon making international phone calls to find a fair rate and low fees. I have found everything from 5% to $8.00 flat fees locally, but the delay is too long. Thanks all.

Havent used cash in Canada in years since they dont mind plastic.
However the last time I did cash conversions it was "free" through my bank (Alaska USA CU).

When I travel or purchase from the US I use a US visa then pay the bill with US dollars from a US account. I buy US dollars when the exchange is right. If you come here lots or purchase here you might want to consider doing the opposite of what I do. If I use my Canadian visa in the US the exchange rates are terrible plus I also have to pay a fee for the exchange.

Kmart used to sell canadian cash straight across for US here, with no fee, at the current exchange rate...

Might call them and check.

Use a cc w/no foreign transactions fees like sw airlines card and or call your/cc debit card co to see if they'll waive fees.

I met ended up meeting some nice folks at a bank by City Hall and they helped out on the lower amounts. The Amex CC was used on the larger stuff, but they wouldn't waive the intl fees. Thanks All.
