rear brake sticking ???????
rear brake sticking ???????
hi all,
im having a weird brake issue,i thought all along it was my ebrake stickin,i even installed a heavy spring to make it release better, after removing the wheel and looking closer its not the ebrake at all its the rear disc not disengagaing all the way, when i pry the pad apart the hub moves freely, when i push on the brake pedal and then try the hub again its very stiff,i bled a lil brake fluid out while spreading the pad and ill try that today,it got so bad i could smell the brake rubbing and it was hot,why would the pads not disengage?i cleaned as much as i could from the caliper and removed it and cleaned inside it too, weird, any sugestions?thanx guys

When you had the caliper off, did you clean everything . Both areas where the pads rest and where the caliper slides should be cleaned very well with a wire wheel or at least a wire brush. Alot of scale will build up and prevent the right amount of movement and cause your brakes to stick/rub.
If the caliper retracts easily with the bleed screw open but hard when closed it's usually as GAmes said, failed hose. Inner layer of hose peels off making a flap that lets fluid flow one way but not the other.

Sounds more like it's time for caliper replace. Typical at age you have. Even though can get to retract, they are dragging as your efforts show. Replace both and be done with it for several years again. JMHO
