Rather dangerous issue, 1997 12v

I have a rather big issue with my truck right now. I went to pass someone, and I was in 5th gear at WOT. After i pulled back into my lane and getting back to the speed limit, my throttle seemed stuck. Figuring it was just jammed on the carpet or something, I pulled it back with my foot, the pedal came back but the engine did not slow down.

Then, after doing this for about 25 seconds, I regained throttle control, and all my guages went to 0, then my truck stalled and I coasted to the side of the road with no power brakes or power steering. That was a fun time. Looked under the hood, no leaks, no oil dumped on the side of the road, engine looked normal. Truck started back up just fine, and it didnt happen again on the way home.

It scared the living crap out of me, and I dont think that it would be very safe for that to happen during busy highway conditions.

Now, my question is, does anyone have any ideas as to what could have caused this. I modified my P pump with a custom ground 100 plate, put on a cold air intake and straight piped exhaust, cranked the starwheel full forward, and thats all the mods I have done to my truck. help?

I had something like that happen to my 97. It turned out to be a problem with the fuel pedal linkage. It had came loose and got in a bind with the shutdown solenoid linkage.

Hey Redneck: Did you have the recall done regarding the throttle cable that dodge had out about a year ago? Seems the cable can fray. Oops, I haven't got mine done yet also.
Happy truck'n

25 seconds of WOT my truck would be going pretty fast, lol. Glad u got it home safely, like they said the linkage is probably the suspect.

I wasnt so much worried about my truck going fast, the highway was relativley empty. I was worried about high egts. Thankfully my fuel filter was clogged and my air filter was good haha. I will take a look at the throttle linkage, and cable, this week. Thanks for the help guys.

a 100 plate shouldn't cause EGT's to reach a dangerous point in 20 seconds of WOT

Hey Redneck if you want to see if there is a recall on your throttle go to the dodge website and enter your last 8 digits of your vin. We have had to have all of ours done.
