Pump Jump!
For a couple of years my truck had the habit of shutting down while I was driving, or not starting. I put a jumper wire from the fuel cutoff soleniod and with the key off would have to spark it several times before I could get the proper "click", and then it would start just fine.
Question, is this typical of the soleniod getting weak or dirty, of could it be periodic low voltage coming out of the SMEC?
The pump is now dead, so I'm hoping the problem will be solved with the new unit.
Ideas??????

A lot of people have had problems with the connection at the terminals on the pump. The solenoid gets power from the ignition switch, not the PCM.
It does sound like your problem was with the solenoid since it took a few tries to make it move.
