jump the pump a gear tooth?

how do you "jump the pump a gear tooth" whats this involve and what power do i get from this? and whats the procedure to do it?

You have to take the injection pump off. You won't get anything noticeable unless you have lots of fueling and need the timing advanced alot to burn all the fuel.

Or take the timing cover off, that's easier.

Like he said, don't need it unless you have lots of fuel. It would be too much timing on a truck with stock injectors.

so say i got 40+ hp injectors i can bump the timing 1/8th and i dont have to touch the injection pump? and it will still burn the fuel alright?

With 40 horse injectors, just advancing the pump itself should be fine.

and thats by doing what the other suggested? by taking the timing cover off and bumping it ahead? or is there any other way to do that? im new to diesels so im trying to gather what i can about the mods and such, i plan on doing injectors soon, so need the info on it.

ah, and do you turn it more to ward to head? or toward the fender? and how will you know that the timing is right?

moving the pump toward the head advances the timing. There are special tools for testing timing but I havent used them. Advancing timing will help keep your exhaust temp lower. With minor mods move it an 1/8" the more you crank up the pump and go to hotter nozzles the more timing you can give it. You can either play with it and see how it runs of pay someone each time to see where your at. I choose to play with it, no cost. Have fun
