PSC power steering pump & gear box install
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
bought PSC gear box and pump and am having trouble installing the pump. I removed the stock gear box and when I look at the pump it looks nothing like the pump from PSC. Has anyone installed a power steering pump on these trucks. Most I see have just installed the gear box. I also have a DSS to put in but installation of that and the gear box is halted until the pump thing is straightened out. I won't be able to get to the pump once the new gear box and DSS is intalled. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. I'll do some searches for now but look forward to any replies. I notice the pump from PSC looks like the one installed on a V8 engine. See link.

The OEM power steering pump on the diesel will have to be removed from the vacuum pump, and then the adaptor and coupling on the power steering pump removed from the OEM unit and installed on the PSC unit. Once you get everything apart and have the actual steering pump removed from the assembly and the adaptor you will see where it will interchange. You will need pick up a Cummins or Dodge vacuum and power steering pump service kit so you have the adaptor o-rings and such that are not supplied with the PSC pump kit.
One word of caution. The PSC rebuilt steering gear box has a nice thick sector cover, and a dolled up endplate, but the parts that break are the lower sector shaft bearing, and that is the same with the PSC as with the Dodge unit. You will be serious money ahead to pick up Solid Steel's lower steering gearbox bearing stabilizer, no matter if you use PSC's unit or a new Dodge replacement steering gear box. That stabilizer saves that lower bearing from beating out on rough roads.
