Question Power loss?

My first post and its in the emergency section. haha

Anyway, I recently aquired and put on the road a 92 w350 with about 300,000 kms (odo/speedo busted right now) on it.

I've been driving it for a week or so and fixing a few things here and there. Seems to have good power once I fixed a one of those rubber boots that holds boost in. This morning driving to work I was coming up a minor slope and for sh*ts and giggles put the hammer down in fourth and it pulled good then seem to start chugging and loosing power so I backed out of it and seemed fine. Still good bottom end torque. Since I was at work by then I couldn't give it another run to see what was up. This is going to bug me all day though so I thought I'd get some opinions here.

Think It may be a very dirty air filter?
I haven't had a chance to swap/clean it yet.
Or a fuel filter? I opened the water drain the other day and I have a new filter, same thing though, no chance to swap it yet.

Thanks!

Corey

PS. Know of any place that sell/ship gauges to or in Canada at a reasonable price?

Thanks again!

Nothing blue, maybe a little black. It was pretty hard to see though.

i will recommend that you take care of the maintenance items before posting a problem that may not be a problem at all.

why dont you change all the little stuff (air, oil, fuel filters ) if you havent yet
thats what i do when i get a new to me truck/car, just to know where i stand on all that stuff

my truck kindof splutters when its near the gov limter
maybe you just pushed it that much

but it doesnt sound like anythings wrong

now you just need some gauges and some bombs to teach that hill whos the boss

Ok, update.

Did air/fuel filters and it still does it. If I floor it is sputters and pukes some blue smoke. If I just drive around without using the last 3/4 to full throttle it seems fine?

Could this be a weakening fuel pump?

Thanks,

Corey

At what RPM are you getting the sputtering? Like B&B said, you may be coming up on the governor and its starting to pull the power back.

Thats the bugger of it, I don't have gauges yet. May order some from Piers today since they are in Canada.

It does happen moreso at upper rpm, wich does make sense if its the govenor. I can make it happen a little if I can just cruising then floor it, but its not as bad.

Thanks,

Corey
