pinion trouble

Pinion seal went out on me last week, changed it out and changed the fluid. Now my pinion is getting hot. I probably lost a fair bit of fluid when it went out the first time but it wasnt totally dry may less that 1/2. I know the fluid loss isnt good for it. But could i have overtightened the pinion nut and therefore now i have a heating problem. I pulled the cover and everything looks good and the pinion bearing also look ok and has no slop. These are shimmed correct?

You changed the pinion seal out yourself, or had it done?

Well, when you torque the pinion nut the crush sleeve (you used a new crush sleeve, right?)

Did you put the shims for the posi back in the same place?

Ok now you have me confused, everything I have read says these are shimmed and dont have a crush sleeve, as far as the shims for the posi, i never touched them. All I did was change the pinion seal, put everything together again, filled it up and now my pinion is getting hot.

215-330 ft lbs. on the pinion nut. Then I probably had it too tight. Now does this actually have a crush sleeve or is it shimmed? I cant see a crush sleeve in it and what little driving i have done i dont think that i have hurt the bearings. I cant move the shaft up/down or left/right, and there are no metal shavings in the oil or on the magnet.
