I recently had the 5th gear come off. being my only car I have to drive it. fine for a few days then today I was backing out of my driveway and it wouldnt come out of reverse. The shifter moves anound but wont go into another gear and wont come out of reverse. Help. Are these two problems related?

 

Ouch, probably. Any lose articles that can get into the mesh of gears can be a very bad thing. Does the shifter move ALL over, or just around as if it were in a gear or reverse. You could start by taking your tower off and seeing if there is anything visible from there....

 

ya the shifter moves all around but is stuck in reverse. I was gonna pull the tower off and check it out. any other ideas?

 

Other than pull the plug and see if you have shrapnel in there.......

Sounds like your linked is screwed up maybe.

 

Im guessing maybe the 5th gear shift rail is bound up and the shifter is stuck between 5th and reverse. Im tearing into it tomorrow.
