SO I got stuck with the Reverse Horn recall thing

Well, my air conditioning was blowing warm air on my 05 QC this week. Took it in this morning and asked the dealer not to do the "not in reverse horn honking crap" and they said they had to do it for legal reasons. So after getting a new AC compressor put on my truck, they did the flash for the "alarm" it totally sucks. I need to backup with the door open all the time. So my question is, has anyone thought of putting a bypass switch in line with the signal wire for the horn? I figured I could shut the horn off while moving the trailer then turn it back on. Anyone see a problem with this?

Nope-I'd do it in a heartbeat. Screw the computer on this particular issue, anyway.

I hate it! For the rest of the time I have this truck, if I ever have to go to the dealer with a problem, I'll end up with this horn honking nonsense. Sheesh.

Just curios, but why would you have to back up with the door open?? I've been towing for years, and i don't think i've ever had the need.

I normally have the door open so I can hear the person way back there

But anyway, the one dealer I had in PA would call me if they needed to do anything, and I mean anything. If they had to do something (in my case pull the drums on my old dodge) they had to call because I didn't sign the paper saying that's what they were to work on. I wonder if they do do that to your truck without your permession if there's something you can say as to "I don't recall approving that" or is there something in the TSB that states they are required to do it.

Here's my question. When you need something fixed, and you know it's a problem DC will build a wall of china to keep from fixing it. However when nothings broken with something, they'll jump on you like bear on honey It's amazing.

Anyway, I do have a switch in the horn wire. I did this so I could switch from my horn, no horn, air horn. That way if I park it I can leave it on the regular one incase my air tank runs out. I spliced it near the horns, and was rather easy. I disconnected the horns, and had the girl push the horn button, found the hot wire, spliced it to a on-supply-on switch and presto.

do a search on seatbelt and horn. there is a thread on it and somebody just unplug the 2 wire harness for the drivers seatbelt and put in a jumper wire. He said it worked and all is quiet.

I tried leaving my seatbelt plugged in and it still went off, so that doesn't work (at least on mine it didnt). Looks like a horn bypass switch it is!

I need to open my door due to the limited space I have between the trailer and 1 of the RV gates.............I have about 2" of clearance on each side. The other RV gate is much bigger, but I fill up both sides of the house.

If you need a "helper" to back up just invest the $14.00 on a set of Motorola walkie talkies. That's what the wife and I use.

I don't know guy's.. If you read the very first posts about this subject, a few people have said that they told the dealer not to install this stupid flash, and the dealer didn't. The customers said the dealer made them sign some sort of paper saying customer has denied the re-flash. Someone even mentioned that when they were at the dealers shop, and asked for them not to do the flash, the service manager called up Chyrsler, and they told the manager to have the customer sign a paper. One fellow mentioned he called the Dodge help line at 1-800-853-1403 and they said he can refuse the recall. On a different page someone stated that Chrysler said the COULD NOT put a "hold" on the "E17" reflash, but the customer CAN request that everytime he brings the truck in for service that the "E17" flash not be done.

Check out the post "Merged-Park Recal/Reverse honk Recall", theres 6 pages of info.

I sure know, that if I bring my truck in for my next oil change and they put this STUPID feature on my truck, They will have one super mad customer, thats gonna throw a fit, yell, and make the dealership want to take it out, just to get me out of there before I get in my truck to take it home. I'm disabled and out of work, so I got a loooot of time on my hands!!

Took mine in for service friday and talked to the tech that I request and I told him that I didnt want the recall and he told me not to mention it to the service writer and if they did make him do it he would tell them that he could not get it to take. I guess Iam lucky having a friend in the service dept.

I had my truck in for service and to have the pinion factor changed last week. I told them that I did not want the E17 recall done. There was no problem or nothing to sign...just stated on the invoice customer does not want E17 recall performed.
