Have an 03 2500 5.9 California engine ,auto trans ,3000 miles
I have a jingling type noise at idle truck is at dealer for two days they have no idea what it is . But agree it's not normal Tech line dosn't have a clue either. Anybody have or heard of any problems like this. Truck has no driveability problems and no CEL or pending codes. It's just a annoying jingling type noise. Also no bullintins on this either. Thanks

Re:Noise at Idle

Hi Mike and welcome to DTR. Is the "jingle" come and go (cyclonic)? Only at idle, kind of sounds like a fueling knock? Rpm fluctuates a little? I had an 03 with these symptoms and ended up putting an injection pump on it. With the DRB tech line told me to monitor the line pressure. Every time the noise was heard you could see the psi drop. Called tech back with the results and they sent me a pump. Last I checked pumps were on national back order. I know DC accidently sent us two pumps and the parts guys have said they receive at least two emails or calls a day from other dealers wanting the pump we have. Hope this information helps. We techs are on the learning curve right now with the new fuel system.

Re:Noise at Idle

Dealer called me today and said we think we found the cause but won't know until we replace the part. The part being one of the drive belt idler rollers. I asked why not just remove the belt and start the engine. No responce from advisor.I 'm going to let them run with it. I'm a tech at a Subaru/ Volkswagon dealer ,have been for 25 years but they talk to you like they are the only people that know anything about repairs. There CSI (Customer Satisfaction Index) must realy suck. Guess I'll know tomorow if it's repaired. Thanks to all for the advice

Re:Noise at Idle

I had a terrible noise from the front of mine, Cummins in St. Lewis thought it was coming from the gear case. It turned out to be the fan hub bearing. Do what he says, take the belt off and see if it is gone.
