No WTS light, hard start, lotsa white smoke....

This past Monday morning I went to start my truck and no WTS light came on, no big deal since it was warm out. Had a hard start and the truck felt a little off. Now this morning i started the truck and again no WTS light comes on, a hard start, and a lot of white smoke with a rough idle. Once truck gets up and moving it seems fine with no noticeable loss of power, except when i tap the throttle at idle it gives me a little hiccup. ***? Truck just turned 40,000 this weekend. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the grids should be coming on.
This is for earlier years but much will apply Diagnosing Grid Heater Problems
