No Gears - Please Help

Hi All, I recently started my '07 Ram 2500 Mega Cummins after it sat for about three weeks. I put the truck in reverse; nothing! Shifted into drive and again nothing! I let the truck run in neutral and went through the gears and once again, nothing! The transmission has never been worked hard and has never acted up or made any noise (even now). It's almost like there is a disconnect between the shift lever in the cab and the tranny. I checked the oil; it's at the proper level and in good condition. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The first thing I would do is get someone to crawl underneath the truck. You can do this yourself. Then you need to turn the ignition key enough to release the lock but not far enough to turn the ignition on. Set the parking brake of course since you're going to be underneath. Have someone move the shifter through the gears and who ever is underneath needs to watch the shifter on the transmission unit. If it doesn't move, I'll bet a small clip has come off and the linkage fell apart. That's why it doesn't feel like it's shifting, it isn't.

My daughter had the same problem with my 2010 3500, and it was the divider box shifted into neutral. She pulled it into her driveway, shifted out of four wheel drive low and shut it off all at the same time without waiting for the transfer case to shift back to two wheel drive high. Let it set overnight and there was enough water in the system to freeze the control.

I hopped under on the snow and ice, with a heat gun and it was going again in about three minutes.

The kid got a lecture on letting it shift and then trying it to make sure it was in gear before she shut it off again.

I changed both transmssion filters and got the gears back. Cleared the codes and so far so good!

Now you need to find why the filters were plugged.

How many miles are on it?

There are 80,000 miles on the truck, mostly hi-way, 50% of the time pulling a light trailer. I opened up both filters and there was no evidence of any 'foul play', nor were there any particles in the pan. The fluid was also in good shape; proper color and not burnt.
