This morning I could not get any forced air to the defroster or heat ducts, only the vent duct. Temp is normal out of the vent duct but as soon as I select heat or defrost I lose all forced air, no output at all, move it back to vent and I have normal fan and heat output. My feet are freezing and my windows do not clear for some time...going to be late again tomorrow .

I'm assuming it is one of the actuators or vacuum switch? Thing that confuses me is the lack of forced air in defrost or heat, the blower motor isn't controlled electrically by these vacuum actuators is it?

Also, when switching from vent to defrost and back to vent, there is forced air out of the defrost duct for about two seconds then the duct closes. I hate these vacuum pods, give me a cable anyday.

Anyone have any ideas where to start? I believe I have good vacuum still.

It sounds like there is some movement when you select a different mode, so the problem is low vacuum. Either the source is low or leaking or the control is leaking or a vac diaphragm is leaking. My guess would be that since you live in a cold climate, the age of your truck, basic description of the problem, that the control is leaking internally. Probably if you play with the control **** you may get some function change out of it.

I did the same thing...even went so far as putting 10% down....and then walked...I was lucky to get my $$ back from those shysters. I cant believe how much $ a 98 12V commands up here. Guys in the US are buying them for 12-13k?? And they are $20-25k up here. What gives?

OK, just to clarify, there is a town in Michigan with the actual name of Hell. When I read that statement, I thought you lived there. Is there actually a hell, in canada or is it hell in canada . Kevin

 

actually, the place I live in is HELL....although the town is named something else.

There is no other HELL in Canada (except for Winnipeg.... )
