changing wheel bearings
I tried to change my wheel bearing this last weekend, but didn't get very far. I had problems with getting the brakes off. I was wondering if only the pads and calipers need to come off or if the braket that they are attached to needs to be removed also. I think that the braket also needs to come off because it is over the rotor so you wouldn't be able to pull the hub assembly off straight. This is what I was having problems with. I finally gave up because I wasn't sure and it was taking to long.
I am not sure on this yr. but every other car or truck after pulling the caliper off if the mount or braket that held on the caliper is in the way of pulling the rotor off the you need to remove the caliper mount bolts hiding on the back side and you will almost for sure need to use a beaker bar to losen the bolts they are on very tight and you want it that way.
I tried to loosen them up and have broken three 3/8" ratchets. I know that I should have been using a 1/2" but I didn't have a 12 pt. socket that size. I will get one and try again later.
