Heat to Defrost problem

Hello, I have a 2003 Dodge CTD. I just brought it into the dealer Friday for a heater/defrost related problem.

I cannot get the functions to change from defrost to heat, or vise versa, when the fan speed is in the two higher settings. When fan speed is in the two lowest settings, most of the time it will change functions.

The truck has 83k miles on it and luckily I purchased the Chrysler Max-Care extended warranty. I still have 2k left.

I was just curious as to if anyone else out there has encountered such a situation. Is there a TSB out on the issue?

Service advisor says in the worst case scenerio, entire dash assembly needs to be removed. If so, this makes me a little nervous. I keep having re-occuring nightmares of all sorts of electrical gremlins when I get the truck back. Any thoughts??

Talking Defrost Door TSB

I had the TSB done over a year ago, problems with it switching. I had same nightmare your worried about dash apart=rattles, electrical problems, etc. No problems to report, could not tell they were even in there, must of had a good tech working on it lol. Control still works fine and I'm switching it back and forth constantly from defrost to floor heat and all in between.Hope it last forever for me.

All I have right now is heat from the panel vents. I've got mine scheduled to go in next week to get mine fixed. This ones coming out of my pocket as my warranty expired many a moons ago.

Well just got mine back today. There definetly is a TSB out on this problem, so maybe you are in luck, Crabjoe.

They fixed the problem just fine, all the functions work as they should. But, as I was worried, turn on the lights and no light behind the fuel gage. I call dealer back and got a smart a** reply, "They burn out all the time". All my lights worked just fine when I brought it in. Told me to bring it in and he will "See if Chrysler will cover it". What a Jack a**. They know darn well when they had it all apart, they either did something wrong, jiggled it the wrong way or whatever.

They also broke, and I don't know how they did this, one of the fasteners that hold the pad down on my nerf bars. Again, it was fine when I brought it in. This doesn't really bother me as much as the light.

Anyone know if it is difficult to replace a dash light? 2003 Dodge CTD. Thanks.

mine had similar trouble... the heater box and door were not changed on mine to correct the issue, the HVAC control piece in the dash was changed and it seems to have solved the problem

Was the HVAC control piece in the dash very expensive?, because i might as well try that on mine first before i have to get the whole dash taken apart...

The HVAC Control piece is usally just over a Benjamin.

When I called my dealer about an estimate, I was told if it's the controls then it would be around $200. If not and the dash comes out, $400.

SOB! I left the truck with the dealer all day to find out they were charging me $79 as a diagnostic fee and I'd need to take the truck back to them next week once they get the parts to do TSB 24-004-03.

The only good part about what happened today is, atleast I think this happened, is that the idea of the the dealers diagnostic was to replace the controls then they were to lazy to put the original back in. So it seems I got new controls.

You might ask why I think I got new controls. Well, I remember the old controls had what looked like a scratch caused from a finger nail and I don't see it any more.

Reguardless, I guess I gotta look @ what I think is the bright side because this no heat deal is a PITA and thinking about it could make me sick!
