Neighbor needs help ASAP

Thanks in advance, sure this has been researched 1000 times. Think my neighbor's lift/transfer pump is out (1996 12V, 146K miles). Had a leaky line off the top side to the P-Pump, now we can't get it to catch for the life of me and wondering if the pump has seized. It has been primed, injectors cracked, bumped and cranked to death. I have no noise at the LP/TP or at the top of the tank. Are we right in thinking the transfer pump? He's going out of town soon so any help would be appreciated.

Problem started with a leaky top line to the P-Pump.

I would say yes, you should hear pump running. Just hope the VP44 pump is still ok that is the expensive pump. Good Luck

Thankfully, being a 1996 this thing is P-pumped, not a VP-44 nightmare. Leaks out the backside of the P-pump (consistent with hose leak), but nothing at the pump. This guy is ready to abandon (bought new) and thinking about a Tacoma (please noooooooooo!!!!!!!!). Like that thing is going to haul. My money is on the transfer pump, thanks big iron.

Thanks rich. I can personally attest to this tank being full. I unfortunately know all about the level sending units on these things. Who would've thought that diesel was so corrosive (hahahhahhahah). The mechanical lift pump or transfer pump is what we're thinking it is. Little pita.

Given my experience with the 24V, I should ask how much noise the transfer pump is supposed to make. I can't imagine it's silent. Again this is a p-pump, not vp-44. My airtex always let's me know it's working. Thanks in advance or TIA.

they dont make any noise its like the old fashion gas fuel pumps. it should have either a button or a lever to prime with crack the line after the pump before the filter to see if it is working only pumps when engine is cranking

Thanks rich, I see you've had experience. So with 4 lines cracked, no noise or juice at the injectors and about a dozen primes and cranks you'd say the transfer pump is out???? Thanks again.

I'll check top and bottom side with those bolts cracked... thanks again. If neither proves true, we'll go to the parts store.

Try pulling up on the shutoff solenoid with the key on before you crank the truck. If the relay dies, then the pull-in coil can't pull up the lever. The hold-in coil will hold it up and the truck will fire.
