Neighbor needs new tranny or xfer case!

Anyone have good advise on where to purchase a new or rebuilt tranny or xfer case?

My neighbor has a 2001 Quad CDT 4x4 6 speed manual (just like mine only a '01) with some major drivetrain problems. It acts up and we don't know if it is the tranny or the xfer case. I'm sure something is fixin' to give, and want to advise him on where to buy replacements for either or both. He has a hydra-bed on it and feeds round bales and hauls heavy cattle trailers like I do, so he needs products that will hold up, not high performace for engine mods, but something that will last under stock power with heavy usage.

Can someone tell me where to price these components for him if we need them? We are in Mulhall, OK,....in the middle.

Thanks!

What exactly is it doing? I'd bet on a clutch issue if it's a standard. Also, it sounds like this may be a job that oughta be handled by a shop. Where are you located? Someone may know of a good clutch shop in your area.

ebay usually has some transfer cases for cheap, and you might luck up on a tranny on a good day.

I think the biggest problem he has is sometimes he get in, starts it, and lets out on the clutch in 1st or 2nd and it acts like the truck is bound up. Everything is locked up. It will kill the truck if he lets out all the way on the clutch. He tells me he wiggles the xfer case shifter and switches gears a few times and then after a few minutes of messing with it, it will finally drive again. Now, I haven't been there, but that seems like the weirdest thing to me. I would like to be there someday and try one thing at a time and figure out what it is. I'm quit sure it need some professional help. Dodge wants wayyyyyy too much for working on this. They told him if he needed a tranny it would be like $3500 or something like that. I find that hard to believe.

We are in Mulhall, OK, central to the state. Anyone know of any good driveline type shops around here that do exceptional work?

Thanks.

Hmm, you might check the CAD on the front axle and verify its not stuck in 4wd. It could be sticking or maybe theres vacuum there when there shouldnt be. Also raise each wheel and spin it to see if its something easy on a brake or axle.
