need help black smoke

I have a 2001 3500 and there is a lot of black smoke coming out of the exhaust and there is a loss of power any thoughts?

WELCOME TO DTR, check for codes. with the key on off on off on and watch your milage. are you sure it's black smoke or white?

dirty air filter, i/c boot, turbo going south, do you have gauges? whats the boost level compared to what it has been?

Sounds line an intercooler boot leak. That year is bad about it. Check all the boots and clamps.

It is black smoke, loss of power, i don't know how much boost it is stock no gauges and the i/c boot did come off (seem to pop off) a day before the black smoke.

So did you put it back on? Too much fuel and not enough air will cause Black smoke. Check the boot again and make sure it is still on.
