Need help with 98 24V
A friend of mine is having bad trouble with his 98' 24V 2500 with an auto tranny. It has an Edge box on it, I think its a Edge EZ. It started sputtering yesterday and died. It would start and go if you let it sit awhile but it will sputter and die. He changed his fuel filter. I showed him the bump the starter trick and the lift pump responds like it should. However, we left the plug on the top of the fuel filter housing off and observed the pump. The pump did pump fuel but not enough, I'd say a pint and a half came out the hole. We tried to start it but it does not start. It cranks good but won't fire. Tried to crack open the injector line to #1 and no fuel squirting out. Tried several times but nothing ever happened. It has a digital odometer on it, I tried to pull codes with the on/off/on/off/on trick, but that did not work. What should we try to do next? He is going to change the lift pump, that I know is bad.

I'd say that if possible get the codes pulled. And just for good measure go over all those electrical connectors in reach. Remove the edge box (just to reduce the potential sources of troubles)
Good Luck!

Success ! We got it running. The old lift pump gave up on moving fuel. He put the new one in and opened the bolt on top of the filter housing. He then bumped the starter and had Old Faithful underneath the hood! Still wouldn't start after that. Cracked 4 injector lines and it started to fire. It turned over shortly afterward. These engines don't sound good when they are sputtering on 3 or 4 cylinders while trying to get the air out. Thanks guys

Now we'll count the days till the VP takes a dump. They don't always, but I sure seem to see alot of them come back in the next few months after putting the lift pump on when it's that dead.

I agree with you JBody , most of them we get back within 2 months , some we get back in a week time and the Cust. are not happy, they all feel we didnt do the job right, oh well , we dont even give them a heads up anymore on the pump going out unless it is a fleet
