my truck runs like crap PLEASE HELP
the other day i was out on the highway and had her pinned. the motor started to miss so i backed off it went away so i pinned her again and again it started to miss. today i started it up cold and she puked out alot of white smoke and it was missing so bad that it took about five seconds to get the turbo to spool. it would take off good once the turbo was fully spooled. after it warmed up it ran great and had no problems. i let her cool off and tried it again and sure enough it ran like it had only 4 cylinders and once it warmed up it started to run okay. my mechanic said it could be a sticky injector since i just for the first time ran some meaner cleaner through it. he gave me some additive to "lube" everything up so far no improvement. he also ran it for codes and everything was good so WHAT COULD IT BE....HELP

I would run the cleaner at least 2 tanks of fuel and get your truck good and warm to help burn up any carbon on tips. When is the last time fuel filter was changed out. Couple injectors could be on their way out, but would do the basic stuff first.
truck runs like crap also. have no warranty at 220k. injectors and lp etc never replaced. anyway to easily cheap them? whats a good cleaner to burn carbon out? change oil and fuel filter 7000k
I would say change the fuel filter and run some cleaner and see what happens! If you have a laser temp gauge you can shoot each exhaust port on the manifold. If you see a big difference in temp between cylinders you can chase a bad injector that way! Poor mans way but it works. Most of the time about a 10 -15 degrees difference + or - will be the bad one! Hope it helps!
Try Howes cleaner for injectors. It is industrial grade, supposed to be good at cleaning. Available at most big truck stops. Lucas, and Marvel Mistery Oil also clean and lube injectors. Other additives also clean. Good luck on an easy cheap fix.
White smoke, could be the injection pump with the miles showin. If it is injection pump, could be spittin junk down to the injectors pluggin them up. Try changin the fuel filter (cheap). Fill it with a good diesel additive so the pump and injectors get a strong dose of cleaner. Also some in the tank. If it doesnt clear up real soon after, pull the line off from the lift pump (toward the injection side) and put a gauge on it and check the pressure against specs. If that doesnt do it, could be an injector or two, but probably need a pump rebuild. You want to make sure that pump is workin right before you change out any injectors though, cause junk runs down stream.

One thing to check is the Fuel Pressure sensor mounted on the fuel rail. If this sensor fails then your truck will go into limp mode or wont run at all.
BTW, the folks at any dodge dealership were never able to diagnose low fuel rail pressure on any of my vehicles, and low rail pressure was the cause at least three seperate problems that dragged on for 15k miles or more. I had to take it to a jeap dealer and have them put a guage on the the rail, because dodge wouldn't do it.

Usually a rough start and white smoke indicate a bad injector. As the truck sits the injector leaks down in the cylinder, ths creating whote smoke and a rough idle at start up. If you want to find out which injector might be bad, take off the exhaust manifold and have someone crank the truck while it is cold. The white smoke will come out of the exhaust port where the bad injector is.
but then again, I may be wrong.

i took it to a mechanic who works on the bigger cummins motors used in real trucks and he said it sounds like an injector. so i guess that is a relief because it could be alot worse. by the way this condition occured after i put some howes meaner cleaner in for the first time. i used up 3/4 of a tank with the cleaner when it started so maybe that had something to do with it
Best thing to do is have your injectors pulled, then sent off to a Certified test shop. ( I stress Certified). When you do pull them make sure that you mark each one as to what cylinder they came out of.
