I think you have larger issues than not running.

If it ran for that long upside down, I personally would not try and start it until I pulled and checked the rods and mains at the min.

Yeah the oil pickup will not be in oil when it is upside down. Therefore it ran for 5 min with no oil pressure. The injection pump is lubed with engine oil too and running for that long with no lube may be the reason that it wont start. Anyways as was stated above you should be looking at rod/main bearings at the very min. before starting. Good luck

we have had a few of our large trucks and two dodges rolled over the years a 93 rolled last year and ran for about same time, no harm to any of them. check to see if you have lift pressure to the pump and crack each injector one at a time at the injector until it starts if you are not getting fuel out check to see if you have voltage to the shutdown solenoid

Won't the rods and crank be submerged in oil with the block upside down? It might have gotten more lube like this than when running. Sounds more like a fuel starvation issue. And once cranked, an oil pressure test would be a good start to know if a bearing was spun. Plus the noise along with that.

well hes not to worried about checking the mains and rods as of yet..he just wants to know if its going to run as he already found him self a 98 12valve,..i was wondering if it would have an intake lift pump that could of died and i was also wondering about the shutoff solinoid as to its where about and how to check it?

Fuel lift pump is on the side of the engine, and that is where you should have been priming it, if not, then definitely do so until you hear the overflow valve sing, it almost sounds like hissing through your teeth.

The IP is lubed by engine oil though, and I would almost bet you have issues somewhere........ As for the solenoid, just pull the arm up and wire it in place, you will get fuel if there is any to be gotten.

for many years they have drained the oil out of diesel gen sets to change oil and filter while running his pump has a sump and the truck upside down was lubing the pistons just the rods cam and turbo was not getting oil with no load it probably could run for at least an hour before damage would start

i dont know if this could work but when our 99 case backhoe witha 4bt got rolled it ran for about two minutes. when we rolled back up we changed all the filters and oils, then we tried starting it but it wouldnt start, a little bit of ether and three minutes of cranking got it running, after a while we had to purge the injectors because they had air in the lines but it been running fine ever since.

i dont know if this could work for a truck too but its an idea

I would certainly consider having a sample of your oil analyzed once you get it running (or before). I hope you get running, it sounds like a fuel system purge would help.

Ether and grid heaters are a bad combination. Keep it far away or listen for a big pop and then look to see how much air horn, hearing, and fingers you have left.

You can disconnect the grid heaters, but why. Just bleed the air like you would a filter change.

Hello,

Bearings require a hydraulic wedge to keep the metal parts from contacting each other. 5 min is way to long. The oil needs to be coming from inside the bearing to keep the wedge. Damage has occurred. It is just a matter of how bad. Could be relatively minor or not?
