Lower Control arm Problem.

Ok here is the deal. I took My truck in today for an alignment and they where tiring to adjust the camber, well they proceeded to put a braker bar and a cheater on the lower passenger front control arm and snapped the bolt off. So they said it was a dealer Item only. I have a friend who works at the dealership parts house. He ordered the front and rear camber bolts and the Control arm its self. Now that’s not the best part, THEY told me it was safe to drive with just basically a bolt with nothing holding it in the hole. So I was not charged for the alignment but should I be responsible to pay for the parts and labor that’s its going to cost now to fix it????

Sounds like you found a peach of a mechanic. It may be "safe" to drive as long as it is a good bolt they put in, but it may end up damaging the control arm mount because it will move around. As far as them making you pay them to fix something they broke.....I don't think I'd stand for that. Good luck.

Its a place I have been goin to for along time they have about 30 people working at any givin time, the guy who snapped the camber bolt off has been there for 18 yrs or so. The broke bolt is still in there. Its seized. I im willing to pay for the bolt but if they mess the whole lower arm up tring to get the siezed bolt out I wouldnt figure I shold pay for any more than a bolt and an alighment.

I guess I'd have to agree with you there. I used to work as an alignment tech and I never did like setting the camber on these things because with the straight axle you are unable to adjust each side independently. That leaves you with splitting the difference and living with it. Good luck with your alignment.

Sorry, gotta disagree with you there.

If the mechanic was negligent in his duty to remove the bolt perhaps, but we do not have enough information here to blame him. Sometimes, the freaking bolt really IS seized in too tight to remove, or has a hairline fracture under the head already started, etc. I would bet if the guy has worked at the same shop for 15 years it wasn't his fault.
