lost my throttle

i'm a newby with a 98 24v/automatic 3/4 ton.
the other day i slowed down to make a corner, after the corner i went about 100 yds. and the engine went to idle.
i pumped the throttle a few times and it took off again. i thought it had sucked some air or something. the check engine light is on.

after that i was going down the hiway about 65 mph and it went to idle again.
tried pumping the throttle again, no help. i coasted over to the side of the road and almost stopped i pulled it into low, hit the gas and it took off again.
about two or three miles down the road it went to idle again and wouldn't pick up the throttle any more.

i idled home ( about 5 miles ) and parked it. went out the next afternoon, after the temp. got up to about 20 degrees and started the truck and the throttle worked. tried to pull a code with the key and couldn't get anything on the dash to flash any kind of a code.

i read in some of your other post's about the apps. does cummins/dodge have a problem with them and if so, what's the fix?

any help will be greatly appreciated..........thanks......joe

Do a search for apps reset. I believe it involves disconnecting the batteries for about 1/2 hr, recconecting, turn key on, slowly depress pedal and let off.
Also get it scanned for codes, some parts stores do it. One other possibility is plugged fuel filter. Do you have gauges? What is fuel pressure?

The fix is a new apps. You could try the reset process listed in the tech section but I think your's is too far gone if it left you on the side of the road with only idle. Mine never was that bad and I put up with it for 2 yrs. Go to the cummins dealer in Wichita and get one alot cheaper than dodge or try to get one off e-bay.

At least u were close to home, my brother got stranded in Salina on his way home to Emporia and called me to talk him thru the reset. It worked for about 20 min, so he just got a new apps.

Oh yea, u have to have a code reader for year, key method will not work.

pm my brother if u need any help, he lives in Wichita now and works at sherwin williams but not sure which one.

Go to dealer, get scanned, find p0216 code, call bank. My vote is that it is going to be the injection pump. Until you get it scanned, we're all just throwing stones.

I just put an IP on mine last month.
Had the "Dead Pedal" for the first time last friday.
88,000 miles.
Light is off again for now.

Did I mention how thrilled I am about "Fly-By-Wire?.......

You can try the APPS reset and it may help for some time but...... I think a new APPS eventually is the fix. That's the way my APPS went. It got a little worse each month for about six months but of course each time I was ready to part with the money it would work great for a week or two. It's an electronic part so you never know when or how bad it will act up.

You may be right on, but it would help if we had more info like miles etc..., i wouldn't be suprised if the ip is gone as well.
