Loss Throttle Temporary
Loss Throttle Temporary
I HAVE LOSS USE OF THROTTLE A NUMBER OF TIMES OVER THE
PAST YEAR. ENGINE GOES TO IDLE EVEN TRAVELING AT 55 MPH.
I NOTICE I LOSE IT AT A VERY LIGHT THROTTLE POSITION
OR JUST AS I COME OFF IT FOR SLOWING DOWN. IT HAS STEADILY INCEASED DOING IT. SOMETIME A FEW MINUTES
APART OR TWO HUNDREDS MILES IN BETWEEN. LIFT PUMP WORKING, NEW FUEL FILTER, NO WATER. THROTTLE SENSOR UNIT, WHICH INCLUDES BELL CRANK IS $500 FROM DODGE. IS THERE A ANOTHER OPTION FOR PURCHASE. 140,000 MILES
NEW COMPUTER AT 99,000. ANY SUGGESTIONS.

Just curious, have you scanned it for codes? I think you can do the key on, off, on, off, on and get the codes from your odometer. I wonder if you aren't going to see the dreaded P0216. If so, well that is the kiss of death for your VP44. You can also try going to your local auto parts store and see if they can scan it. Some will even do it for free. Let us know what you find out.

Nine times out of ten, the terminal block at the APPS itself is either dirty or a bit corroded. Disconnect the gound cables from the batteries and then pull that connector right at the APPS, and check to make sure it is clean. Use a dab of dielectric grease when putting it back together.
Once I had the terminal clean and everything buttoned up, I would try the procedure listed here to reteach the sensor where to find zero: https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...n&onlynewfaq=1

Sounds like your APPS has a dead spot or two. Do make sure that the connector is clean like RCW said, and don't forget to re calibrate it. When you recalibrate it the computer will ignore the dead spots and your pedal will act like normal.
THE LAST TWO CODES WERE FOR TPS NOT IN RANGE. WILL
BE CLEANING THE CONNECTOR TOMORROW.
MAY ATTEMPT OPENING IT TO CLEAN AND GREASE THE SENSOR.
THANKS GUYS FOR YOUR INPUT. MECHANIC ASSURED ME IT WOULDN'T

PanHandler, give that Cummins parts desk this part number. PART # 4002066. That is the Cummins Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor (APPS). The APPS is not the same thing as the TPS. The TPS was used on the 98 and older trucks that had the 12 Valve engine. It was used only for the trucks with auto trannies as a throttle reference so the tranny would know when to shift.
Click here for a list of common parts and part numbers on our trucks. Hope this helps you.
Click here for the APPS reset procedure. I highly reccomend you do this before spending your money on a new sensor.
