loose steering
I have known that there was some play in the steering for a while, but recently, my steering has gotten much worse. My 73 Scout II almost handles better. I think the track bar is bad, but could it also be the steering box (the gears inside)? Also, I've read about the Luke's Link...do I need a new track bar for that or does it fix the bad part of the track bar? I just made some money and trying to fix the worn out stuff. Thanks-Cody
Luke's link website should answer all your questions. The DSS steering stabilizer has gotten rave reviews also.
I think you'd probably see the greatest benefit from taking care of both, since they address different areas of wandering problem.
The track bar end allows more lateral axle movement as the bushing wears out, so now your axle is moving side to side under the front end giving you that wandering feeling.
The DSS takes care of lateral movement in the pitman arm shaft coming out of the steering box. When you get slack in the shaft, the tie rods gain extra play that allows the truck to steer left and right itself a little without input from the steering wheel.
My DSS took care of alot of wandering, but there's still a little left from the track bar that's getting worn out. Once I get it taken care of, it will probably feel better than brand new.
