Lift pump fried???
Lift pump fried???
Was changing fuel filters on '01. Removed old, drained bowl, install new with o-ring. Lightly fitted cover, bumped starter, lift pump runs (hums), but no fuel into bowl. Removed filter...same thing...no fuel entering bowl with pump humming.
I take it my lift pump is fried? Please comfirm.

Yes sir! That's why you need an in cab fuel pressure guage. You are lucky to have caught it before you took out your injection pump.
Can I ask you a question? I'm not trying to embarrass you, but after 600+ posts on DTR why haven't you put in a $50 guage that can save your $2,000 injection pump?

chastising accepted...LOL. I guess I've just been lazy.
I use the truck infrequently, but depend on it when I do. The gauges (full set) are on my Christmas list...of course they were on it last year too.

Been running like a raped ape. No sypmtoms, check engine light or anything.
I'd have to say it's unlikely it went bad today, but hopefully not long ago. With zero flow though...yikes.
FWIW...I filled the bowl by hand, squished a new filter in, and she fired right away, then died. Cranked for about 20 seconds and she fired again and stayed lit.
No problem giving me hell...deserve it, as I know better. Just thought I could get away with out it until I got around to it.

Well...the good news. Installed replacement pump from Cummins. Primes proper now. Hopefully my injector pump didn't get stressed. Should I worry? She was getting enough fuel to blow a bit of black smoke when the hammer was down. These events were very brief and seldom.
Considered DC intank and FASS. Next time. Dealer wanted $1000 total (nearly $700 labor) plus I'd have to remove my cabover. Closest FASS dealer was out of stock. No free time for more extensive install. Need the truck for the holidays. I'll take another look when time is on my side.
Gauges don't add horsepower. If DC felt we should have gauges they would've put them on factory (just kidding).
