Lift pump cost? Where to purchase?

I believe I am in need of a new lift pump and am wondering where to get the best price. I have seen in another post that buying from cummins will be less than from the dealer. How much should I expect to spend?

I think the dealer will charge you around $400.00 for the same exact part!! I'd go with Cummins. I'm sure there is a dealer somewhere close to you in NC.
Lots of guys here have gone to the Holley black pump also and I think it runs around the same as the Cummins part and actually works a little better. Those you can get from some of our sponsors...

If you travel to the 64 East side of Raleigh there is Tri-Point Ford right up the hill from Thee Doll House which is a Cummins dealer (get my parts there). You could also try Cardinal International - I believe they carry all of the Cummins parts.

Dealer price is too much for anything pertaining to the CTD.

Would The DOLL HOUSE be anything like what we call a JIGGLE JOINT , if so, how could I convince my wife I need to go to N.C. to LOOK at some good PARTS??

Re:Lift pump cost? Where to purchase?

This is a quote from a guy in my DTR chapter on where he gets Cummins parts. They are in Suffolk, Va.

Hi, just FYI, I have found a place locally, about 4 miles down the road, that handles Cummins parts. The place is Womble Generator Service, Inc.

So, I ordered a lift pump, the adapter harness and the banjo fitting washers. Parts will be here next Tuesday.

Here is a list of prices he quoted me:

Lift pump (12V) 3990105 129.05
Harness adapter 4025182 6.61
Washers (4 @ 0.85 ea.) 3.40

Shipping from Charlotte, NC 6.50
If I wanted to wait 3 weeks for the pump, then shipping would only have been 6.50.

So my order, coming from two locations came to 137.51.
Which is slightly cheaper than some of the TDR entery prices I have seen. I think the ballpark for a pump replacement was around 150.00 on the web page.

The guy I talked to indicated that he could get any Cummins parts required. However I went in there with known part numbers, don't know if he would do a part number search or not.

I went to the cummins website and found the nearest cummins distributor (Birmingham). They ship the parts to me no problem.

On a '99 I would take it to the dealer for warranty replacement - unless you are high mileage. They'll check it to see if it is bad and if it is they will replace it under warranty. Took them about 45 minutes to do mine at 55,000 mi. Didn't cost me anything. I LOVE THAT PRICE!!!

Stan

Re:Lift pump cost? Where to purchase?

I finally tested the lift pump and it shows to be good. My temporary gauge only goes up to 10 psi but it is pegged at idle. At WOT it comes down to 6 PSI and from what I read on here I believe that is good. My truck has 138K, so my warranty has been over for some time now. I suspected the lift pump since I am experiencing intermitent power loss. The pressure gauge did not move down at all when I loose power. I should however just replace the lift pump regardless due to the miles on the truck.

Re:Lift pump cost? Where to purchase?

On Monday, my guage read 15 idle, 12 cruise, and 9 wot. ;D Tuesday, guage started jumping all around quickly. By Tuesday evening, I was reading 5 idle, 3 cruise and pegged 0 at wot. > It sure went out quick without any notice! ??? Luckily I was working near Cummins NW, so I stopped in and got a new lift pump. Cost 148.00 + tax.
I put the new pump on that night and now read 14 idle, 12 cruise and 9 wot. ;D
I think I'm going to get a spare now, my numbers were good one day and hit the floor the next. Would hate to be stranded without a spare on the road.

Re:Lift pump cost? Where to purchase?

There are several articles in the info section on lift pump replacement, one of which I wrote step by step. I think they are in the FAQ or articles section.
