knocking noise after shifts at slow spped

04 6 speed 4*4 long bed CTD knocks after each shift. Noise stops with each shift when rpms are higher. Sounds like muffler tailpipe hitting something midway under truck. Looked under truck, but all pipes, mufflers are tight. Could it be drive line knock? Drive line support with rubber bushing seems sloppy but intack. Any other ideas?

How many miles do you have. I would check your Rear U joints.

...could be anything, including a loose motor or transmission mount! Find a big parking lot (empty) and have someone drive along side of you, both sides, and see if the noise can be tracked that way.

What did the dealer look for?

Gotta say it: It's CUMMINS, NOT Cummings!

did you ever come up with a solution to the problem i have a 01 thats doing it in the lower gears ilke 2nd and 3rd and only in the low rpms then its gone in the high end sounds like a loose hub cap but thats not the case. iam thinking the u joints or the drive line.

Just got my 02 2500 4x4 back from the dealer with a new double cardion(sp) joint in the front drive shaft. Sounded like a loose muffler while costing only but could be heard by the front drivers tire.

When my double cardan went, it sounded like rocks in a tin hubcap.

Glad you got it fixed.
