I have a low speed whine sometimes between 15-25 MPH. It started when the temps were below 25, after it warmed up it stopped. Well it has started again in the last 2-3 weeks. It does not sound like the brakes but if I apply the brakes slightly is goes away. Could this be the carrier bearing, if so how can you check it.

 

My 04.5 was like that. I drive mine carefully and apply fuel evenly and gradually and could hear it until I got up to about 40 Kph. It would also do it when slowing down. If the radio or wife was too loud you could hardly hear it but it is something it did from day one. They replaced the carrier bearing and it has been fine since. I put 45,000 Km on it before getting it fixed.

 

I am at 62K and closing in on the 70K warranty.
