727 3 spped auto questions

I am looking for some insight on the 727 3 speed trannies used in the 89/early 90 my trucks. does anyone know if this used a different bellhousing, or an adaptor and the standard gasser bell pattern? I am sure the tc is different, i am wanting to put a gasser 727 behind my cummins, just not sure if it was a different tranny alltogether.

Diesel and gasser bolt pattern not the same. You will need to find a 727 diesel case.

That last statement is not entirely true. There are differences but many of the internals are the same. OEM 12.2" Borg Warner Torque Converter was used, thus the larger case, tail shaft housing and shafts were different length. The drums, clutchs, accum. pistons, servos etc are the same. Too much to go into really. Basically the gassers will not work behind the diesel. Diesels used the 727HD (37RH) and gasser use different bellhousing also for small block and big block and used the 727 (36RH) .

Or... enough to make putting a gasser trans a poor choise to put behind a Diesel

You don't have to change it to make me happy. I concure. The gasoline engine transmission will not work as is. Take out the guts and put them in a diesel case and your in business...
