Just started smoking!

I know smoke is something most people want. Mine just started all of a sudden. It has a slightly rough idle and i can load it up and put out a serious cloud. I can also make people dissapear behind me. I do like the smoke but i do not like how i started getting it. Does anyone have any suggestions. I am thinking a injector.

What is your FP...has it changed? Sounds like you may have an injector issue.

FP is steady at 18. Had a diagnostic done and no codes present and no abnormal readings. The puzzling part is there is only 118,000 miles on the truck.

Sounds like an injector to me as well, possibly a cracked nozzle. Does it smoke hard on startup?

Not really, It does stumble a bit right at start up, like it has a slight liad on it. That goes away just after it starts. It responds and drives fine. it just smokes to high heaven.

Alright, then it doesn't sound like an injector. Is your CEL on? It sounds like your MAP sensor might be shot, or unplugged.

Its what guys wire a "Smoke Switch" into, basically if its shot it will tell the engine your at full boost all the time, and feed it full fuel all the time. Do you have a Pyro? It should be reading toasty if your MAP sensor is shot.

I had our local diesel shop hook up to it and all his readings were normal. I have the Edge EZ installed so it is hooked up with the MAP sensor and the boost sensor. I wondered if the Edge crapped out or something associated with it. The shop i took it to was booked up and couldnt get to me till after the first of the year because of vacations and such. I have since dropped it off at a different shop and have not heard back yet. Oh yea, no CEL and no pyro.

I would have tried pulling the MAP sensor from the edge module and sticking it straight where its supposed to go. You may have a shorted wire or something on the Edge box thats causing it, even with the box turned off. If its at a shop your pretty much screwed unless you have the keys and its in the lot.

I figure when i get it back this evening i will try that. I would have tried it before i took it but the stock boost elbow is at home and i was not sure if i would screw things up by not putting it all back to stock.

Well, without the stock boost elbow you'd throw an overboost code, but it would determine whether the MAP sensor is shot or not.
