You can not find a pin anywhere? You need to clean the area very good and check for any issues. I have a hard time believing the steel pin has just disappeared.?!?! I mean it is possible the pin got shot out of the hole in the front cover. But very unlikely. Just put some Black RTV in the hole and call it good...

Seems like you were lucky in that the pin didn't get wedged someplace and tear the case apart, which has been known to happen. Sometimes th epin will fall into the oil pan, but it sound like yours may have been shot out of the case. If the timing case is not damaged beyond repair, and the gears in the case are all good, and the pin is nowhere to be found, patch up the front cover as necessary, and if you can get it to seal, put it all back together and be merry.

Pin's in the oil pan. It won't hurt anything down there, it's too big to get through the oil pickup screen. Get another pin, it provides support for the case. The bolts just keep the case from falling off, the pins are what locate it and keep all the gears lined up right.

I used a trimmed down fender washer to hold mine in after it fell out. It was laying on the front of the oil pan. You may be able to get a magnet retrieval tool in the oil pan and fish around for the pin. Good luck with the graphite seal they can be a pain.
