Ignition stuck

I turned the truck off, then realized the windows where open. Put the ignition key in to power up the windows to close them, but the key wont turn.
Tried wiggeling the steering wheel, tried rocking the truck, NOTHING works to get the tumbler to turn. The door chime does some on so I think the key is in all the way.
Please help I need to get to work in the AM.

Tried that, even tried the second set of keys.
The colum isnt locked. even with the key out and in park.
That might be the problem.

I agree, sounds like you have an ignition switch issue.

How about quickly sliding the key in and out of the ignition?

Sounds like the switch itself (usually at the base of the steering column with a big plug attached) or the lock cylinder- try wiggling the key and lock around while trying to turn it. That's how mine started acting when it was worn out- after about 6 months it broke and needed to be replaced.
Ignition is the most used key lock in any vehicle and gets the most wear so the key it self will often still work the door locks because the wear to the key is not as great as the wear to the keys plus the wear to the lock pins in the ignition.

You could try pulling the ignition switch itself off the column- if the key switch becomes freed you need to look at the switch and the linkage- at worst case it may be possible to actuate the ignition switch manually once detached- I'm not really sure where the switch is on these trucks- only previous experiance with other older trucks- had a Furd years ago that the lock cyl was bad (had been stolen 2X, second time the cyl was pulled- started with a screwdriver for a month or two then the pawl broke so I pulled the switch off the column and used a handy piece or wire rod bent and inserted to act as the linkage (toilet flush connection rod- lol) to move the switch. Drove it like that for over a year!

Mine was a stuck tumbler.

My Dodge van does this all the time. The dealer has even tried fixing it. It can go awhile and be fine, other days it happens several times. The best luck I've had with getting it going again is to tap on the end of the key towards the column a few times. That usually frees it up. And yes, it's had brand new tumblers in it at the dealer and has done it in their parking lot when I picked it up it all being replaced.

If the tumblers are sticking lube them- there is a graphite lock lube don;t use anything else. The graphite powder is in an alcohol solution that evaporates and leaves the graphite to lube. using oil will result in a sticky and gummed up lock.
I've never had an ignition cyl stick only door locks since they are exposed to the elements.

Just a shot in the dark, have you tried shoving the gear selector arm all the way up? Mine sometimes sticks and makes it difficult to get the key turned off. Maybe it slipped the locking rod enough to make it so you can't turn it on?

Just another possibility.

just dont put the key back in your pocket for about a week after you do this

Sure would be nice if the original poster told how he resolved this problem so we wouldn't have to keep conjecturing.

You should never put anything like grease inside any kind of lock. it might fix it for the moment but anything like that will allow the dirt and dust and junk to stick and collect in there and in the long run, make it worse.
