I think I killed reverse syncro on my NV4500!!!!

I was driving down the highway last night while on the cell. I go to down shift into 4th, but it wouldnt go...so i pulled harder..still no go...pull again..

Then, I realize I was pulling down into reverse! I thought...stupid me, no biggie.

Then I get into town and try to park. If i let the clutch out in neutral, then push it in and try to put in reverse, it grinds a few times and then pops in.
If I shift into 1st, then back to reverse, it's also smooth.

Before, reverse feel stiff for a second until the gears matched up and slide in nicely. Now it goes down into the gears and grinds a little before locking in.

Any ideas on whats the problem? Did I somehow kill my reverse syncro in about 30 seconds? This sucks...

I assume there was a syncro before I did this. It sure didn't grind before.

yes, reverse has synchro's..... try changing the lube paying close attention to any brass filings that may be present.
you will see some, depending on miles on transmission

I would do what John says. If there is brass from the syncros in the oil I would buy new ones and gaskets and change them all. You probably do not have that many mile yet to do bearing. But to fix you will have to replace the syncro and I think they come in a set. At least for the gas one ton I had you purchased them as a set. I did it about ten years ago to 98 gas one ton that was shifting hard after the wife drove it for a month. While waiting for shop to replace her auto in her car. It was not that hard. I did bearing also, but I had almost 100k on that tranny

I just did some research and found that there is something called a "reverse shift inhibitor" in the shift tower. It's supposed to keep the trans from making abrupt changes into reverse. Maybe I bent/broke it by pulling hard toward reverse?
