Help....Truck won't Start
Help....Truck won't Start
Hi All,
Before Christmas I was going to drive my truck one last time before going on vacation.....When I tried to start it all I got was a puff of smoke from some wire that shorted out....No wait to start or wouldn't even srank (starter that is). ...Lights worked, horn blew Just nothing w/ the key worked....I took the truck to the shop yesterday (yes been awhile since it was started)....they fixed whatever wires kept the wait to start light from lighting and the starter motor will turn the endine over quickly but the truck doesn't even try to fire up.......Anyu ideas?....Maybe my fuel is gelled? How would I check?.....I bought the last fuel in Nov and it wasn't really cold here in VA I don't think....The car is in the garage and the owner isn't familiar w/ diesels.....Unfortunately the truck is still relaticely new to me to?.....Is there some wire that has to have juice to allow the injector pump to work?....If so where is it?....Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for all your help.
Andrew

On the back of the injection pump (the part that faces the firewall) is the fuel shutoff solenoid. Verify 12 volts to the female spade connector with the key on. If not, you need to look upstream electrically. You should hear the solenoid click when 12 volts is either applied or taken away. Failure to click could point to a failed solenoid. Do not confuse the shutoff solenoid with the ksb solenoid, which is on the side of the pump facing the drivers side fender.

There's a blue wire that connects to what looks like a big nut near the back of the injection pump on the top side. That's the shutdown solenoid. It must have 12 volts for the engine to run.
If it's got 12 volts, try loosening half the injector lines at the injector 1,3&5 or 2,4&6 - doesn't matter. Crank the engine over for 20 seconds or so. You should get fuel spraying out of the loose lines. If so, tighten the lines and try again. If it's badly air bound, it will take a few tries to get 'er running.
Due to the wiring work I tend to think it's electrical. You can jump 12 volts to the shutdown solenoid for a test if you want.
